A simple Konya prayer rug woven on a wool foundation with a vibrancy of sweet candy colours of madder red and orange, turmeric yellow and chrome pink. Chrome dyes became popular after 1920 but were already in use as early as 1870. This rug features a date woven into it using Arabic numerals which translate to 1361 (1942) and is based on the Hijiri calendar, or Islamic calendar, which was adopted in 622AD. Also prevalent is the hook design, or monster’s feet, which are used to protect from danger.
